TRANSFORMER

  • A transformer is a windows based component which allows to create a multidimensional database known as CUBES
  • A cube is a multidimensional database which allows you to store the data in a multidimensional array format
  • MDD – Multi dimensional database
  • A cube contains pre calculated aggregates hence the data retrieval is more faster than DMR model (Dimensionally Modeled Relation)
  • A cube provides faster retrieval of data and secure access to the data
  • The cubes which are created using cognos are known as POWER CUBES
  • A power cube is created and saved with an extension .mbc (model based cube)
  • A cube is created from the following data sources

Cognos Architect File (.xml file)

  • A cube is created with dimensions and measures
  • A DIMENSION is a broad group of descriptive data about the major aspects of a business
  • A dimension is created with levels
  • A level describes detail data to a dimension
  • The levels are defined from highest level granularity to lowest level granularity
  • There should be one to many relationship between the levels
  • A MEASURE defines a quantitative analysis in DMR. It is a measure dimension.

CREATION OF A LIST REPORT:

  • Create a list report with the following items in Go Sales and Retailers package
  • Product line
  • Product type
  • Product name
  • Order date
  • Quantity
  • Revenue
  • Save the report as Productrevenue

Creation of Model:

  • Start
  • programs]
  • IBM Cognos10
  • Click on IBM Cognos Transformer
  • From the menu bar,
  • Select file
  • Click on new
  • Click on next
  • Type the name as Productrevenue model ( .pyj )
  • Click on next
  • Select data type source – Report
  • Click on next
  • Select the browse tab
  • From the Go Sales and Retailers
  • Select the Productrevenue report
  • Click on OK
  • Click on Next
  • Select the Query1.0
  • Click on add tab to add the query items
  • Click on OK Tab– à  Click on Finish

CREATION OF MODEL

Click on Add tab—

Click on ok tab

Click on finish

Creation of Cube:

  • Select the power cube window
  • From the tool bar
  • Click on + symbol (insert power cube)
  • Type the power cube name as Productrevenue cube (.mdc)
  • Click on browse tab
  • To select the location power cube
  • Click on browse tab
  • Select to location
  • Click on OK
  • Enter password
  • Click on OK
  • Enter the confirm password
  • Click on OK
  • From power cubes window
  • Select the cube (productrevenue cube)
  • Right click
  • Click on create selected power cube
  • Click on OK

CREATION OF CUBE

Select Power Cube Window

From the tool bar click on +  symbol (Insert Power Cube)

From power cube window, Right click on sales cube——-

Click on create selected  Power Cube—- Click on OK—

Create package for Cube:

  • From power cubes window
  • Select the productrevenue cube
  • Right click
  • Click on publish power cube as data source and package
  • Click on OK
  • Click on Next
  • Click on Next
  • Select create a sign, on that the everyone can use group
  • Enter password
  • Confirm the password
  • Click on test the connection
  • Click on test
  • Click on finish
  • Click on OK

CREATE PACKAGE FOR POWER CUBE

  • From PowerCubes window, select the cube
  • Right click
  • Click on Publish Power Cube as Data Source and Package

Windows Location of Cube is

d:\documents and settings\administrator\my documents\transformer\powercubes

Click on Create a signon that the Everyone group can use

Enter Password

And Confirm password

Click on Test the connection

From cognos home page

  • Select author advanced reports
  • Select the package productrevenue cube
  • Select the crosstab
  • Click on OK
  • Drop the year 2004 2005 2006 (Order date – Year – Members -2004/2005/2006)
  • Drop the product name (Members – Product name – Trialchef canteen/Trialchef cookset/Trialchef cup)
  • Drop the Revenue on measures
  • Run the report from IBM Cognos content
  • Cube max size – 50 GB
  • Data warehouse – up to Terabytes
  • Update the cube to refresh the data
  • Open the report from the cognos by selecting package & report
  • Select the report
  • Run with options
  • Save the Report
  • Run
  • OK
  • Refresh (On top of the page)
  • view the output version (save the report, view the details , Report outputs – Yes)
