Create a project from multiple databases in Cognos

Multi database access (Unique to the Cognos):

Multi database access is one of the unique features, you get to find in Cognos. Its establishment can be done as shown in the below steps:

  • Cognos 10 BI supports to create a single project from multiple databases
  • The database can be homogeneous/ heterogeneous
  • Select BUSINESS VIEWS folder
  • Right click
  • Click on namespace
  • Rename the namespace as RETAILERS
  • Select the RETAILERS namespace
  • Right click
  • Click on run metadata wizard
  • Select the metadata source as data source
  • Select go retailers data source
  • Click on Next
  • Select Tables
  • Click on Next
  • Leave the defaults to generate relationships between query subjects
  • Click on Import
  • Click on Finish
  • From MODEL expand the SALES namespace
  • Expand order_header query subject
  • Select RETAILERS name
  • Click Ctrl+Click
  • Expand the RETAILERS namespace
  • Expand retailer query subject
  • Subject company_name query item and right click
  • Select on Create
  • Click on Relationships
  • Click on OK and from toolbar, click on SALES
