Automatic Planning Methods – SAP CO-PA

The automatic planning methods can be used to edit automatically a large amount of planned profitability segments that you first specify in a planning package.
If you have entered your planned sales quantities individually via KE11 or using a batch input program and do not want to have to press the VALUATE button every time, you can also execute the valuation via automatic planning. First, we will check whether the planned quantities have been entered correctly in accordance with the planning requirements. You can check this using a CO-PA report.
The following automatic planning methods are available:
Copy– for copying data from another year or another plan version
Forecast– for forecasting data using specific rules and on the basis of data from a previous year
Delete– for deleting a large amount of data
Top-down distribution– for distributing data from a higher planning level (such as the customer group level) to a more detailed level (such as the customer level)
Ratios– to valuate a quantity plan using reference prices from another plan version.
Valuation– to valuate data using the logic stored in CO-PA Customizing for valuation.
Revaluation– to calculate additions or deductions for data.
Event– to take into account a short-term event (such as a sales campaign) during the planning.
Period distribution– to distribute data planned for the year to the individual periods.
Customer enhancement– to apply the user-programmed logic from a customer enhancement of data.

In CO-PA reports, you can double-click a characteristic to navigate to the underlying characteristic. This is called drilldown. Now, we drill down on the kind of product (see figures below).

You can see that although you have only entered the planned quantities via transaction KE11 at customer/ product level, further characteristics such as customer hierarchy level 1 and kind of product have been derived and you have implemented the requirements of your key account managers 1: 1. Now we want to valuate the planned quantities automatically. To do this we use the old transaction KE1B. The screen shown in Figure below appears.

You can remove the test run indicator if you want to post planning data. The automatic planning (point of valuation 04) is to take place during period 007.2012, in plan version Z01, and for record type F (as explained in the assignment of your valuation strategy in the Plan Version and Planning Value Strategy).
You must select the VALUATE parameter, otherwise nothing will happen. Now, click PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS. All of the characteristics of your operating concern appear. For each characteristic, you have to decide whether you want to copy it or summarize it. Summarizing means that you aggregate the data of various characteristic values. If a derivation exists, the characteristic is derived again. If you choose COPY, the values of the characteristic are copied directly.
If you want to make entries for a characteristic in the selection criteria, you should copy this characteristic; otherwise you can summarize. A processing instruction variant could look as shown in Figure below.

Now, click SELECTION CRITERIA. You now choose precisely what you want to plan. You can make selections at a very low level (that is, the lowest level of a customer/ product combination), or you can valuate all of your planned quantities immediately (Figure below represents the minimum specifications).

Now click VALUE FIELDS. On this screen, you define the value fields that you now want to plan. It makes sense to select the value fields that you want to valuate using your valuation strategy (see Figure below).
