What Is Meant By Tableau Aggregate Functions?

I'm newbie to Tableau and that too comes from avg math student background. So confused with math terminology. Can anybody explain aggregate functions in Tableau in detail?

In Tableau, we have built-in Aggregate functions using which we can extract summarised data from the tables. Some of the Aggregate functions are as follows -

Average
Count
Median
Minimum
Maximum
Attribute
Dimension
Variance
Count Distinct
Variance of Population
Standard Deviation
Standard Deviation of Population
