What is Kong?

Kong is an open-source API portal and platform that performs as middleware between calculating clients and API-centric applications. The portal easily extends the functionalities of APIs with the use of plugins. Kong is used by developers and software developers to build portals to APIs, organize them, and adjust for scaling.

Features of Kong

  • Request and feedback transformations are high.
  • Confirmation on services for security.
  • Analytics to search, monitor, and visualize microservices.
  • Optimize the request and response information to logging solutions.
  • Traffic control to limit interior and external API traffic.
  • Solicit serverless

Benefits of Kong

Kong is expandable, portal agnostic, and quick. The other advantages are:

  • Uses of giant Kong Inc. API market for available APIs.

How Does Kong Perform?

Kong must have two parts set up to be working:

  • Kong Server: The HTTP server is created on top of NGINX and performs reverse proxy to bring customer requests to enhance services.
  • Kong datastore: The data store secures the Kong configuration, so information base round trip while proxying request is not required. Apache Cassandra and PostgreSQL can use it.

When an API Kong is running, each customer requests API and passes through Kong before being proxies to the final API. When the request passes through Kong, it performs any plugins that are installed. Kong can be seen as an entrance for client API requests.

The Kong admin API is a RESTful API and can configure the portal, optimize users and enable or disable plugins.
