Oracle currently offers no certification for E-Business Suite technical development — the 1Z0-238 Apps DBA exam is retired — so the credentials that count are Oracle Database SQL (1Z0-071) and PL/SQL (1Z0-149), an optional EBS module essentials exam, and Oracle Integration for the cloud pivot. Oracle has extended E-Business Suite 12.2 Premier Support through at least 2037, so EBS technical skills have a long runway.
Start with the two skills every Oracle Apps Technical job asks for: SQL and PL/SQL. Then learn the EBS three-tier architecture and file system, Application Object Library basics — users, responsibilities, menus, value sets, concurrent programs — and the base tables behind GL, AP, PO, AR, INV and OM. The optional Oracle Database SQL exam (1Z0-071) is a useful first credential. No prior ERP experience needed.
Build the deliverables EBS projects run on. Develop and register Oracle Reports with bind and lexical parameters, convert RDF output to XML/BI Publisher using data definitions and RTF templates, personalise Forms through TEMPLATE.FMB and CUSTOM.pll, and configure descriptive and key flexfields. Design multi-module extensions, lead EBS 12.2 upgrades and OCI lift-and-shift, and build EBS-to-Fusion integrations using Oracle Integration (OIC), FBDI and ADFdi data loads, and BI Publisher on Fusion. The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure 2026 Application Integration Professional (1Z0-1042-26) is the most relevant credential here. Typically 8+ years across EBS and integration.
Outcome: an honest path from SQL beginner to Oracle ERP technical architect, built around the RICE work (Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Extensions) that EBS projects actually hire for, plus the Oracle Fusion Cloud route that follows. Oracle exams are delivered by Pearson VUE none of them certifies EBS technical development itself, so a portfolio of real interfaces, conversions and workflows carries more weight than any badge.
